Your Risky Teenage Driver

A new study shows teenage drivers on learner’s permit have about the same collision and risky behavior (eg hard stops and turns) rate as adults. Good news, right?

Not really. In the first three month period after they get their licenses, their collision rate goes up 800% and their risky behavior rate goes up 400%!

A license doesn’t make anybody a good driver. Don’t just hand over the keys when your teenager passes the test. Instead, create your own program to gradually ease them into the challenges of driving safely. First in the neighborhood for short distances alone, next on the freeway alone, next at night alone and lastly, only when you are confident, let them drive in the most dangerous teenage scenario…with friends in the car.
